The short version

FieldRain has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your places and gauge readings stay on your device and in your own private iCloud account.

Locations of your places

To show rainfall, the app sends the coordinates of a place, its time zone and your gauge reading hour to our server, which returns radar totals. The server does not keep these requests or write them to logs.

Your current location is used only when you tap Use my location, to put the pin on the map. The app asks for location While Using the App and never in the background.

Rain alerts

If you turn on a rain alert for a place, the app sends that place's coordinates, time zone, reading hour, alert amount, its name and an Apple push notification token for your device. We store these only to send the alert and delete them when you turn the alert off or delete the place. They are not linked to your name, email or Apple Account.

Gauge readings

Numbers you type from your own gauge are stored on your device and in your private iCloud database. They are not sent to us.

Purchases

Subscriptions are handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details.

Exports

CSV files and shared place lists are created on your device and leave it only when you choose to share them.

Data sources

Radar rainfall comes from NOAA MRMS, a public dataset. Volunteer gauge reports come from CoCoRaHS under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license.

Children

FieldRain is not directed to children under 13.
